One of my favorite classes I have taken so far at Sloan is New Enterprises. The class is focused on starting new businesses. You get hands on experience in the class by coming up with an idea, and running with it. The final project deliverable is a business plan which is graded with the real world in mind: if a VC would talk to you after looking at your plan, you get an A.
The other great thing about the class is that each week, and almost each class, we get visiting speakers. Last week, the Helen Greiner, Chairman and co-founder of iRobot, came to speak to the class. She was a great speaker and came across as extremely passionate about her work. A truism I have heard a lot since I came to Sloan is to ‘follow what you are passionate about.’ Helen was a great example of this.
