We will be hosting an annual student auction this week, and I’ve been nominated to serve as an emcee for the event. All the proceeds of the auction will benefit charities, and we hope to raise at least US$7000.
People are donating all sorts of things, from paid lunches for two at a fancy restaurant, to tutoring lessons for final exams. As for myself, I am hoping to offer an “Ultimate Guitar Package” (guitar kit and lesson). I can give the lessons and I hope to have a local guitar company donate an axe for the cause.
As such, last week I visited the Berklee College of Music, hoping they would be able to offer an instrument. I went to the president’s office and had a long, 30 minute discussion about the event. They were incredibly helpful and called the guitar department head who suggested I visit First Act guitars down the rode. I had never heard of First Act, and was curious to check out their guitars. They make some beautiful instruments and have a very cool store.
I spoke with an assistant manager at First Act about whether or not they would be interested in donating a guitar. He seemed rather positive about the prospects of a donation, and directed me to their marketing manager. I just sent them a proposal today. Fingers crossed.
Follow up: First Act is on board! They donated a great guitar, and we were able to auction off the package for US$450! I want to extend a big thank you to First Act! Overall, we were able to raise over US$8000.
